Hello!
Progress reports were sent home with students today, along with information regarding the 7th grade's first social. Please sign the progress report and permission slip and return both to Ms. Apgar ASAP. Students will continue to be assigned chapters of Lightning Thief to read at home. I have some books available to take home, but students must remember to pick them up before leaving. I have also emailed them various e-text versions of the text https://www.readanybook.com/online/67152. Most days there is a reading check quiz following the homework reading. Thank you for your support!

Hello, The district has announced that tonight's Open House is POSTPONED! This week, we are continuing to read the Lightning Thief. We will read chapter 6 in class on Tuesday, and chapter 7 will be homework. Students can borrow a copy from school or use the e-text (this was sent to student's NHPS gmail accounts and is in the post below). Quizzes follow most at home reading! In order to complete the novel, you will need to do some reading at home.
http://engageausl.businesscatalyst.com/assets/pj-and-the-lightning-thief.pdf The above link will get you to an e-text of the novel for at home reading. For Friday, you will need to read Chapter 5 and complete the worksheet given in class. At this point, all students have an independent reading book, which you should see coming home. Students have been given a blue folder to keep their books and reading logs in. Homework for tonight: Continue reading their independent reading book, fill out the reading log, and pick 2 Character response questions to answer (there are 9 options, but students only need to pick 2). I will collect these on Wednesday.
There is no school on Tuesday. When we return to school on Wednesday, students will return to our CORE text, The Lightning Thief. We'll work on chapters 3-5, focusing on close reading for details to infer character traits, and explore the use of foreshadowing in the text. Hello everyone!
Welcome to week 2 of the 7th grade! Thank you for providing your email addresses through my parent survey. (If you haven't please send me a message through the website or email me directly at [email protected]). I will send emails when we start new projects, etc. to help keep you in the loop. The expectation is that 7th graders bring their planners to each class so they can record their assignments. I will also post this information to my school weebly website: http://msapgarlanguagearts.weebly.com. I will begin updating PowerSchools with grades this week. We spent last week doing a variety of freewriting and getting to know you activities, while also previewing future independent reading books. Students in 7A have already had a chance to take some books home. Students in 7B and 7C will get books on Thursday. Reading log activities will start later this month, but I encourage each student to read nightly, even if there is no written work assigned! Book reports will be assigned later in the marking period. I will email the directions, once it is assigned. Today, we started The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, which is our CORE novel for quarter one. Most of the reading for this book will be done in class, although there will be some chapters assigned for homework. We will also start brainstorming and prewriting for our personal narratives, which will be our first piece of major piece of writing. This will be one of several assignments that will go into each student’s portfolio binder. If students have not brought in a 1 or 1.5 inch binder, please have them do so by Friday. Most of the personal narrative writing will be done in class. Again, I will post updates on our progress to my school webpage, and if you have any questions, please feel free to email me. Tonight students were assigned a letter to write to me. They have until Friday to complete it. Starting next week, homework will be assigned nightly. If they prefer to type their work, that is always acceptable. I am willing to accept assignments through Google Docs if printing at home is unavailable, but the assignment must be shared with me BY 9am on the day the assignment is due! Please be sure to send in all paperwork from orientation! This paperwork was sent home with students who did not attend the orientation last week. The paperwork includes emergency contact cards, lunch information, school health clinic paperwork, etc. A few dates to remember: September 12: No School September 18: Students are dismissed at 1:30pm September 19: Open House/ Meet the Teacher Night September 21: No School I look forward to a productive school year! Please reach out with any questions! *Ms. Apgar |
