It's another busy week in Language Arts class!
On Monday, students will take the SRI (Scholastic Reading Inventory) test. Students enrolled in Read 180 took this assessment earlier in the month. We are continuing to read the Lightning Thief in class. There will be at least 1 chapter assigned for homework on Tuesday. I will be emailing students an e-text, although students can check out a hard copy from the library, if they prefer. We will also continue working on our personal narratives. Students have selected their challenging moment and have started using different elaboration techniques to draft the narrative. This week we will begin incorporating dialogue and work hooks for interesting beginnings. Readers' Workshop will also begin this week. Students who already have a book they are reading at home must bring the book in on Wednesday. I look forwarding to meeting families at Open House on Tuesday! The first major writing assignment will be a personal narrative. Write an autobiographical narrative based on a challenge or choice in the student’s life that follows a logical sequence. Use narrative techniques such as dialogue, pacing, and descriptive details. Include a conclusion that reflects on the significance of the experience. This week, we are continuing to brainstorm and pre-write. The Soundtrack to My Life homework assignment is designed to help students record their memories, hopefully discovering memories they didn't think of for their Life Map. This homework assignment is due Wednesday, Sept 14. Directions and a Sample are below. |
