Students recieved feedback on their vignettes (although some students have not turned in a draft--see powerschool: if there is a 0, it means I did not recieve a draft).
Homework tonight: Return to the draft vignette. Highlight or underline the examples of figurative language they used in their writing. If there are not 3 examples, they should add figurative language to their writing.

Students will be writing their own personal vignettes. The assignment will have them select an element of life to explore using a variety of figurative language. Much of the project will be done in class. For TONIGHT"S HOMEWORK: Students need to write a 1 page draft vignette. They should pick from 1 of the options and draft their vignette. A draft does not need to be perfect. Spelling errors, etc are fine at this stage. I am only looking at the ideas they have.
Students should have an independent reading book they read at home. For some students this is a book they are starting. For others, this is a book that they may be in the middle of reading. BY MONDAY, Nov. 26, they will need to read their book 3 times (for 20-30 minutes each time), and complete a double entry journal. Double entry journals are a way for them to react and respond to the text. This is something we've done in class.
Due on 11/16:
For Reading/Writing homework tonight: Students are reading 1 vignette from House on Mango Street "Chanclas" and they have 1 open ended question. They should have a packet. They went through the first page of questions in class, the last page is homework. If they have lost this assignment/ forgotten write it down: -they can access the text here: http://www.sdshs.net/ourpages/auto/2015/10/15/48627869/HouseOnMangoSt_PDF.pdf -The question is: How old do you think Esperanza is in the vignettes A Rice Sandwich and Chanclas? What evidence supports this estimate? They can answer this on lined paper. Reminder:
Conferences are Wednesday, Nov. 14 Teachers will be in their rooms from 2-3:30 and 5-6:30 to meet with families on a first come, first serve basis. |
