Hello!
As we wrap up the last day of school, I want to wish you all a happy summer. It has been a pleasure teaching your child this year! We've made a lot of growth this year in SRI Scores, Smarter Balance test scores, in the quality of written essays, etc. Report cards are being mailed home this week, and in them are several different resources and notices. You will find information regarding the New Haven Free Public Library's Summer Learning Program. Each student had the opportunity to take home two free books last week. While many students are off to summer camps, summer jobs, and summer trips these next few months, please take a moment to have your child sign up via their website. Students will set their reading goals, and have the opportunity to each a free book and t-shirt. Your child can register by going to .http://nhfpl.org/ymsummerlearning. You will also find your child's most recent Scholastic Reading Inventory score. 80% of the 7th graders met or exceeded their growth goals, and continuing summer reading will help them maintain their current scores! By the end of 7th grade, students should fall between a 970-1170. Continuing to read over this summer is a great way to continue building vocabulary! There is also a notice regarding the 8th grade trip to E.P.C.O.T/ Disney World. A payment plan begins in September. Students were given a "Sponsor Sheet" last week, but I have attached another copy as well. Summer is a great time to start fundraising! If you are seeing out-of-state friends and family, consider having your child ask for sponsor help. In the past, students have paid for most of their trip by bring sponsor sheets to Summer Family Reuinions and other events. The letter outlines other fundraising ideas. For example, returning cans and bottles for the 5 cent redemption has raised over $250 to put towards the trip. Consider starting a collection at home. Thank you again for all your support this year! Wishing you a happy summer, *Ms. Apgar

As we approach the end of the year, I want to take the time to say THANK YOU for all your support!
The 7th graders have made tremendous growth, with over 80% of students meeting or exceeding their reading growth goals. As we enter the summer, it is important that students continue to read over the summer, to maintain their growth. They recieved information regarding summer reading at the New Have Free Public Library summer reading programs, and had the opprotunity to pick books from the donation piles. Please encourage your child to read 30 minutes a day, and to sign up for the summer reading program: http://nhfpl.org/ymsummerlearning/ |
